Stink bugs are most active in the spring and summer. In the fall, they start looking for ways inside your home or office. They enter buildings through small cracks or openings around doors and windows, as that’s where they often tend to lurk for the winter months. Stink bugs try to get inside during fall because they want to be in the warmer temperatures your buildings provide.
Although stink bugs don’t actually feed or reproduce once they’ve gotten inside, it can still be tricky to get an infestation under control. If you don’t completely get rid of them, they may reappear once the weather warms up.
While those stink bugs may love being inside, it’s not something many people are going to enjoy. Stink bugs will fly around, crawl along the walls, and generally be a bit of a nuisance. What’s worse is that when you kill them, they give off an unpleasant odor so many people feel unsure of how to deal with them once they’ve come indoors.
Some common tricks for avoiding that stink bug smell is to suck them up with a vacuum cleaner or to catch them and flush them down the toilet. While this is handy if you just notice one or two stink bugs lurking inside your living area, you’re going to need more experienced help for a full blown infestation.
Once stink bugs have made their way inside your home or office building, they tend to settle themselves inside wall voids, attics, and crawl spaces. You might not even realize how bad the infestation is if you aren’t checking the attic and other locations for them. However, you may see them make an appearance in other parts of your building on warmer days, signaling that there could be a more serious issue.
If you discover that you have a stink bug infestation or suspect you might have one, it’s important to contact a professional exterminator to deal with the issue. This is something we often help customers with and we begin by examining your particular situation. It’s helpful to know how large the infestation is and where the stink bugs are hiding. Then, we develop a plan to get rid of them and keep this from happening in the future.
